When you hire Powers Construction, you’re hiring a family whose name is on every job: the same people who answer the phone, walk your house, and stand in your kitchen when it’s done. Ricky has run his own crews for 30+ years.
Hi, I’m Ricky Powers.
I’ve been building and fixing things my whole life. I grew up on a farm, and when something broke you didn’t call somebody. You fixed it yourself, and you fixed it right, because the work couldn’t wait. When a tractor needed an overhaul or the irrigation had to go in across a field, I figured it out. That’s where I learned to plan a big job and see it all the way through.
I’ve worked in the trades since I was a teenager. I spent a stretch in the Army, served in combat, and came home a disabled veteran. Then I got back to building, and I’ve run my own crews and companies for 30+ years. In that time I’ve done most of what a house needs on the inside: cabinets and counters, tile and floors, doors and trim, decks out back, and the repairs nobody else wanted to bother with. If it’s part of a house, odds are I’ve fixed it or torn it out and done it over.
I grew up dirt-floor poor, so I know what a dollar is worth, and I know how it feels to hand it to somebody and just hope they do right by you. Too many homeowners get the opposite: overcharged, handed sloppy work, or left with a half-finished job and a crew that quit answering the phone. I built this business to be the other kind. I use the materials and the methods that are right for your house, not the ones that pad my margin. The price is fair, and the work holds up. That’s the whole deal.
That’s still how we run it. I walk every job myself. I’d rather turn down work than take on more than we can do right, which is why we keep our schedule small. Most of our work comes from people we’ve worked for telling their neighbors. That’s the only review that’s ever really mattered to me.

Jessica and AJ didn’t get their jobs because of their last name. They got them because I’ve watched them work.
30+ years of what I know is going into those two. They hold the same line I do. Do it right, and tell the truth about it when it isn’t.
When I’m not standing in your kitchen, one of them is. As far as I’m concerned, that’s the same thing.

That’s a strange thing for a contractor to say out loud, so here’s what it means.
A remodel is weeks of your house being torn apart. Somewhere in the middle of it, a crew stops seeing a home and starts seeing a job site. That’s when the drop cloths get thinner and the dust gets everywhere.
Jessica is the reason that doesn’t happen here. Floors covered. Dust kept where the work is. A bathroom you can still use.
She runs the day on site, and she’s the person you talk to while the work is going on. If something changes, she’d rather tell you than let you find it.
At the end she walks the house the way you would, not the way a crew does after six weeks of looking at it. The trim, the touch-ups, the list nobody wants to make. That list gets made.
She’s a mom, which explains most of it. She treats your house the way she’d want somebody treating hers.
AJ, Head of Production
Ricky’s son. He grew up on these jobsites.
AJ runs the crew day to day, and he’s on the tools while he does it.
Tile is his. Layout, setting, and the last look before anyone calls it finished. If your job has a shower, a floor, or a backsplash you’re going to look at every morning for the next twenty years, that’s his work and he knows it.
He has one rule he won’t bend: nothing gets covered until what’s behind it is right. No tile over a floor that wasn’t prepped. No trim over a gap. If something has to come back off, it comes back off. He’d rather have that conversation with you on a Tuesday than have you find it in three years.
He sets the week up before it starts. Materials ordered, deliveries booked, and the crew scheduled and trained on what’s coming, so the job isn’t waiting on something that should have been handled.
He’s also easy to have around, which matters more than people expect over eight weeks. When we open a wall and find damage nobody could have seen, he doesn’t hand you a problem. He comes to you with a way to fix it that still gets you what you wanted.
How we work, in plain terms.
- We show up. When we say we’ll be there, we’re there.
- We tell you the truth. Even when it costs us the job. If your budget doesn’t match your wish list, you’ll hear it from us first.
- We protect your home. Floors covered, dust contained, site cleaned at the end of every day.
- We finish. The little things at the end matter as much as the big ones at the start.
- Our name is on it. This is a family business in the Tampa Bay area. We have to see you at the grocery store. That keeps us honest.
